Photos are from Tough Mudder Boston at Gunstock Mountain in Guilford, New Hampshire on June 2, 2013. It was 12 miles of brutal pain, but one of the most rewarding things I have done in a long time. I ran with a team of 4 co-workers, one dude Kenny, and 2 chicks, Jess and Val. I ran every once in a while with the ladies, never with Kenny, he just ran on his own. Within three weeks of the competition I ran over 30 miles and felt like I should have been good to go, but I was not ready for what was to come. The run has 4 straight mile climbs that are up black diamond ski trails. This was very tough running, that the last 5 miles pretty much turned into painful hiking. Most of the obstacles were pretty easy, especially if you had a team. The Arctic Enema was by far the worst/hardest in my book. It was about 85 out when we started the event so our team looked forward to the ice pit... But once you were in it, it felt like your organs were shutting down. As soon as i hit the water i pulled my left calf. This didn't help the 7 miles that i had coming afterwards. The last 4 miles are so was not hills but huge mountains that you had to climb. They were far to hard to run, with the mudders just hiking as quick as they could. Running down the hills was probably harder because you knees want to give out the whole time. Once you are at the bottom of your last hill you have two obstacles left, Mount Everest a full size quarter pipe to run up... and ElectroShock Therapy 10,000 volts of electricity powered by car batteries that is scattered into 1000's of thin strings that hung all over the path. What made it even more fun is it was in deep mud puddles with random hay bails in your way. I let everyone that was in front of my finish so I could let the wires rest instead of flying all over the place. I picked my line and started weaving in and out of the buzzing 10 foot long spaghetti strings. I felt like I was in the clear and the last one caught my right leg. The shock jolts just a little bit but wasn't as bad as it was imagined. Once you pass the arch to the finish line you are greeted by happy volunteers and other mudders that have recently finished. Then you get the mudder orange head band, a finisher under armor tee shirt, and one beer that you feel like you are owed and deserve! Sick time, my next tough mudder is August 11, 2013 I am now taking my training much more seriously!
Today I did a decent at home crossfit workout.
It took me 13 mintues and 39 sec. I'll try it again in 3 weeks hopefully much quicker. I currently weight 230 lbs. which is very heavy for me. I have a long way to go.
Don't limit your challenges, but challenge your limits.
